What is heli biking?
Heli biking is a mountain bike adventure that includes the thrill of a helicopter flight up to our chosen exclusive FreerideNZ locations and the enjoyment of a bike ride down. The riding on our heli biking adventures is mostly on purpose built all-mountain singletrack trails.
Who provides the bike?
- Can I take my own bike?Yes we allow you to bring your own bike. How ever bikes must be of suitable quality and well maintained. Freeride NZ guides check personal bikes over before any trip begins.
- Do you provide a bike?Freeride NZ offers a range of high performance full suspension mountain bikes. Certain rides require different types of bikes. The correct rental mountain bike for each tour is included in the ride price with additional helmet, gloves and extra protection can be given out when required.
- How will you transport my bike? Bikes are carried on purpose built bike racks, or certified bike trailers.
What do I need to take with me?
- What clothes do I need?Wear comfortable clothes you would be happy mountain biking in and suitable footwear. Riding clothes can also be hired. The weather in New Zealand is unpredictable, we advise of a windproof/waterproof jacket, thermals (seasonal), sunscreen, sunglasses and of course a camera! We do advise a back pack to carry your own personal gear and additional hydration and food if you may need it.
- What bike equipment do I need?Your guides will look after you're your bike and more importantly you during a guided ride. Our guides carry a full first aid kit, bike tools, spare parts and extra tubes if anything unfortunate should happen.
How hard are the rides?
Freeride NZ use a grading system indorsed by BikeNZ. All our rides have the appropriate grade associated to them. Grades range from 1 being the easiest (description: fairly flat, smooth track) to a grade 6 being the toughest (description: extremely steep sections, man made structures and jumps).grades link
